Where to Park a Golf Cart in Fort Myers Beach Without the Stress

Why parking takes a little planning in Fort Myers Beach

Fort Myers Beach sits on Estero Island, a narrow barrier island about seven miles long with Estero Boulevard running down its length. Most of what visitors want, from the beach to restaurants and shops, sits along that road. In the busy winter and spring season, parking near the sand fills quickly.

The island is also still rebuilding after Hurricane Ian in 2022. Some parking areas, parks and businesses are closed or working on reduced space, and the picture changes month to month. A golf cart helps, because it is smaller than a full-size vehicle, but it still needs somewhere to go when you arrive.

This guide covers practical ways to make parking a golf cart in Fort Myers Beach less stressful. It does not cover where carts are allowed to park. For that, check the local rules before you go or ask the operator.

Start with your rental

The easiest parking space is the one at your rental home or condo. Before you arrive:

  • Ask your host where the cart should be kept. Some properties have a set spot for carts, some ask you to use your regular parking space and some have very limited room.
  • Ask about charging. If you rent an electric cart, you will need an outdoor outlet within reach of where the cart is parked.
  • Check the delivery address. If the operator is delivering the cart, make sure they know exactly where to leave it.

If your rental is a short walk from a beach access, you may find it easier to walk to the sand and save the cart for errands and dinner.

Know how public parking works on the island

Fort Myers Beach has several kinds of parking, and each works differently.

Town-operated spaces and beach accesses

The town has numbered public beach accesses along Estero Boulevard, and some have paid parking nearby. Payment is handled by app, website, text or phone rather than coins, and enforcement runs every day, including holidays. Look for the posted signs at each space and follow the instructions there.

County-operated lots

Lee County runs some public lots on the island. As of fall 2026, the lots at Lynn Hall Memorial Park and Bowditch Point Park were listed as closed while rebuilding work continues. Check the current status before you count on either one.

Private lots

Private lots are concentrated at the north end of the island near Times Square and along Old San Carlos Boulevard. Each sets its own rates and hours. Read the signs before you leave a cart.

Business parking

Shops and restaurants usually reserve their parking for customers. Use it only while you are a customer, and ask staff if you are unsure whether carts are welcome.

Whether a golf cart can use a particular space depends on local rules and posted signs. Do not assume a space sized for a full-size vehicle is open to carts, or the other way around. Ask the operator for current advice.

Plan around the time of day

  • Go early. Beach parking near the north end and Times Square fills fastest in the late morning and early afternoon, especially on weekends in season.
  • Go late. Late afternoon brings turnover as day visitors head home, and the sunset crowd is often easier to fit in than the midday crowd.
  • Avoid the midday rush on busy weekends. If you can shift your beach time, you will spend less of it circling.

Make drop-offs simple

  • Drop people and gear first. If you are carrying chairs, umbrellas and a cooler, unload at the access and then go and park.
  • Bring a beach wagon. A folding wagon makes the walk from your parking space to the sand much easier.
  • Pack light for short trips. A quick dinner run does not need the whole beach kit in the back.

Pick the right cart size

A smaller cart fits more spaces. If you expect to park often near the busy north end, a 4-passenger cart is easier to place than an 8-passenger one. If you need the larger cart for your group, plan a little extra time for parking at busy hours.

Use the operator's local knowledge

Your rental operator sees what is open and what is closed week to week. Ask them:

  • Where renters usually leave carts near the beach
  • Which areas are under construction or closed
  • Whether any events are taking up parking during your stay
  • What to do if you need to leave the cart somewhere overnight

Their answers will be more current than any guide, including this one.

Be ready for rebuilding work

Recovery from Hurricane Ian is still under way. Expect:

  • Construction zones that close or move parking from week to week
  • Closed parks and lots, including the county lots at Lynn Hall Memorial Park and Bowditch Point Park as of fall 2026
  • Work at Times Square, where the Fort Myers Beach pier is being rebuilt, with completion targeted for 2027
  • Businesses opening and closing as they rebuild

Check opening status before you plan a day around a specific place.

Parking near Lovers Key State Park

Lovers Key State Park, just south of Estero Island, has its own parking and charges an entry fee per vehicle. Ask the operator whether a cart is a sensible way to visit before you plan the trip.

Look after your cart when parked

  • Take valuables with you. Carts are open, so do not leave phones, wallets or bags behind.
  • Use the key. Take it with you every time you leave the cart.
  • Cover up for rain. Summer brings frequent afternoon storms. If your cart has an enclosure, close it when you park.
  • Park considerately. Leave room for others, keep clear of driveways and beach access paths and follow the posted signs.

The short version

Parking a golf cart in Fort Myers Beach goes smoothly when you plan around where you are staying, the time of day and what is currently open. Use your rental's own parking where you can, go to the beach early or late, drop gear before you park and ask the operator for current advice. For where carts can be ridden and parked, check the local rules before you go.
