Street-legal questions

What is the difference between a golf cart and a street-legal LSV?

They are separate vehicle classes in Florida law. A low-speed vehicle (LSV) is defined in Florida Statutes § 320.01 and must be registered, titled and insured, and carry equipment such as lights, mirrors, seat belts and a VIN. A standard golf cart is not an LSV and is more limited in where it may be operated.

Can I drive an LSV on any road?

No. Under Florida Statutes § 316.2122 an LSV may generally be operated only on roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less, and local authorities may restrict specific roads further. Check the rules for the exact roads you plan to use rather than assuming island-wide access.

Do I need a driver's licence to rent a street-legal LSV?

An LSV must be operated by a licensed driver. Individual operators also set their own minimum age and licence requirements, which can be stricter — confirm with the operator before booking.
